Amazon to Invest in Self-Driving Forklifts
There has been much written in the past about self-driving cars and how these may be the future when it comes to life on the roads however, it would appear that self-driving forklifts aren’t too far away either.
It has been announced that over the next seven years, Amazon is looking at investing in a warehouse robotic firm namely Balyo, a French company, developing technology for self-driving forklifts.
As warehouses become ever more popular the technology required, including forklifts, is also on the rise and therefore there is belief that warehouse automation is the future when it comes to cutting costs but speeding up distribution.
It is suggested that Amazon will invest and receive as much as a third stake in Balyo which will result in Amazon receiving free stock warrants. This investment will then see Amazon invested in a whopping 29% of Balyo’s capital which is can exercise depending on orders of Balyo’s products.
The technology produced by Balyo, are navigation systems which enable forklifts to become self-driving vehicles which would in turn produce an estimated revenue of more than 23.3 million Euros.
It is a bold step for Amazon and hopefully will result in big steps forward in both the Forklift and the Warehouse Industry creating a fantastic sector to be involved in.
