In fast-paced work environments, it’s important to carry out work as quickly and as efficiently as possible however, employee’s safety should not be put at risk and safety measures should be taken at all times.
Although there are so many high-tech ways to safeguard forklift operators and those around them, a few of the basics are often overlooked.
All safety authority bodies governing the use of forklifts in the workplace require the forklift’s capacity data plate to be accurate and representative of how the forklift is configured. If any attachments are then fitted to the Forklift it is also paramount that these too are safety compliant otherwise these can pose a significant danger to those operating the forklift as well as others in the workplace.
When a forklift or any other piece of machinery is fitted with any attachment other than what it had when it was made, the installer must send the engineering data of that attachment to the forklift manufacturer. The forklift manufacturer is then required to send an updated capacity data plate to the dealer for installation onto the forklift, this must all be done before the forklift is put back into service. All too often this isn’t being done and is leading to injuries and accidents in workplaces.
It is the duty of those who maintain the forklifts within a workplace to ensure that all safety checks are carried out. Accurate records should be kept about all maintenance and checks to ensure safety within a workplace.
Forklift Agency offer Health and Safety approved forklift training to both employers and individuals nationwide, they also promote the high levels of safety and forklift management within the workplace.
